Campaign for Universal Ratification of the Migrant Workers Convention

Migrants' Rights are Human Rights!
Global Day of Action for the MWC!
Thursday, December 18th, 2008
International Migrants Day

There are over 250 million migrants in the world today,
yet migrant workers continue to suffer inequality, discrimination, abuses, and exploitation.

The Migrant Workers Convention (MWC) is the principal United Nations convention that protects the rights of migrant workers and their families.
But only 39 governments in the world have ratified (accepted) it.

No country in the Global North has ratified.

**TAKE PART IN THE GLOBAL DAY OF ACTION FOR THE MWC!**

Join groups from around the world to demand universal ratification of the MWC!

Take action with us on December 18th by organizing activities to educate the public on migrants rights and calling on your government (or other governments) to ratify the MWC.

Activities can be small or large - letters to your government, petitions, discussions, film-showings, concerts, vigils, sit-ins, rallies, marches - these are just some of many ideas for activities.

More ideas for activities

- a film festival featuring short pieces that address migrants issues;

- a live or video fashion show displaying traditional dress;

- a concert featuring an ethnic band or dance group;

- a intercultural youth sporting event;

- event keynote speakers, perhaps public leaders among the immigrant community;

- to do an online radio show, contact Radio 1812 at radio1812@december18.net

The key thing is public outreach and education. Be creative!
